Good afternoon everyone. I hope that all my clients, friends and family are healthy and safe during the Covid-19 pandemic. It was brought to my attention that some of my clients at Joshua David & Associates have been concerned about their file status considering all of the difficulties that have arisen due to Covid-19.
First of all, I wanted to use my website as a medium to reassure my clients that they have not been forgotten. Unfortunately, I do not have the credentials to the Joshua David website and am unable to update the site directly. My managing lawyer is governing his firm accordingly and reaching out to his clients, but I still wanted to take the extra step in informing my own clients of the status of the courts in light of Covid-19.
The Courts remain closed at this time, but legal professionals and officials are scrambling to mitigate the situation by implementing remote and conferencing technology to keep the wheels of justice turning. Our firm continues to work and review files, and do what we can to make sure that at least any delays in the case are minimized from our part. We will update our clients as needed based on the unique characteristics of their individual case.
Most of the Joshua David staff have been operating remotely. In order to care for my support team (some of them are students), I have instructed most of them to operate remotely while I attend the office myself to ensure we are processing mail, dealing with faxes, etc.
The measures we have implemented for the safety of our clients include access and/or location reference to hand sanitizer, as well as nearby washrooms to ensure proper hygiene. Our staff have been instructed to minimally handle any materials exchanging hands with clients, and we have put in professional protocols in place to have updates to clients and other communication conducted by email and phone.
If in-person meetings are required, we ensure to screen our clients for symptoms, as well as to practice safe distancing and other control measures. As a personal touch, I recommend that my clients bring their own pens for signing, and I try to drive to clients as much as possible to execute documentation and exchange through my car (I try to Uber Lawyer as much as possible for my clients).
My team and I would also like to reassure you all that while our offices conform to the recommendations given during the pandemic, law offices have been designated as an essential service. We continue to manage our cases and take the steps necessary to move cases forward.
The temporary closure of the Courts, as well as limits of rehabilitation clinics and other treatment providers means that delays are inevitable and processes will take longer to complete.
If you have any questions arising from this public post, please do not hesitate to contact me by email kris@jjdlaw.ca.
I will do my best to answer questions and assist with concerns. I hope this update is informative and addresses some of the concerns which may have arisen of late.
Please stay safe, healthy, and optimistic that together as nation, we will get through this pandemic and its effects on our lives.
